Gmail Themes Galore!

30 November 2008

Earlier this evening, I opened up my Gmail to check if there are important messages for me. I've been an gmail user since 2007 and i love it. Of course I have my Yahoo mail but I use my gmail for other purposes. I use it when signing up some forms and resumes because I don't like putting the likes of sweet_angel14233 or cutie_me26 or machogwapito on my resume. In short, I use my Gmail for formal purposes haha.

So okay, I opened my Gmail and I was surprised.

They just launched 30 new and stunning themes!

When I checked out their blog, I found out that it was officially out last November 19.

"We wanted to go beyond simple color customization, so out of the 30 odd themes we're launching today, there's a shiny theme with chrome styling, another one that turns your inbox into a retro notepad, nature themes that change scenery over time, weather driven themes that can rain on your mailbox, and fun characters to keep you in good company. There's even an old school ascii theme (Terminal) which was the result of a bet between two engineers -- it's not exactly practical, but it's great for testing out your geek cred."

Of course I immediately tried one of their themes. And here's the screenshot of my inbox, in Planets theme:

A few days to go before Christmas, and everyone is having their own list of gifts they wanted to receive. Of course we have our own guft ideas for this holiday. I just made my own list and I will give to my relatives. I even have a list on my cellphone. But today the most saught after gift this generation is of course, the small but terrible iPod.

iPod is today's most powerful gadget because it plays music and video, and has large memory storage. But as technology becomes modern, more new versions of this gadget were born, including iPod Nano and iPod Touch. They both offer great features that provide the user with great satisfaction.

While looking for some iPods for sale here in town, I noticed that prices have gone down. Maybe since this is holiday season, different shops are offering promos and discounts for buyers.

Thinking of any gift ideas? You can also shop online and look for the best iPod prices by visiting some price comparison sites. They will help online shoppers to spend and have more value for their money.

My Recommended Christmas Gift for Dads

(This is a sponsored post)
Well the holiday season is near, and evreyone is expecting gifts and goodies from relatives and friends. I want to share to you a story. Its my Christmas experience last year with my family.

Last Christmas, my Uncle Norman sent a package from the US containing his gifts for the family. He has been doing this since he migrated to the States when we were still kids. Now he already had his own family but he still makes sure that all of us got have some presents for the Christmas. Well last year, we received two boxes. Everyone of us had their share- I got a new bag, my brothers new shoes, my cousins some clothes and make-up. But my Uncle Vern got the best gift among us.

Want to know?

It's the 5.11 Tactical Series from Workboots USA! I really love this gadget and I hope to get some too. Since Uncle Vern is a fireman, this set of gears really fits him. This series is created especially for policemen, military and firefighters. It includes Tactical Series shirts, pants, accessories, knives, gear bags, gloves, jackets, undergear, and the Tactical series eyewear. And of course the set also includes VTAC pouches and gear, and a watch. Definitely its a gift suitable for fathers and uncles this season!

So my dear readers and visitors, why don't you call your friends and relatives abroad and tell them about this exciting gift? I am hoping that I could a set of this series too. Very useful equipments and gadgets all in one. How was that for a gift?

Share your Christmas stories too. And maybe from your story, you can come up with an idea for perfect gift.

Actually this result is from a very interesting site I found thru Mr. Ian Casocot.
Google Fight takes that fascination further by giving any Internet user two search fields: you simply type in two specific keywords, each to its own search field, then you press Enter—and Google Fight determines which keyword brings back the most returns. If you type in “Obama” vs. “McCain,” for example, Obama wins hands-down with 244,000,000 returns compared to McCain’s 157,000,000. This means that there are more Internet references and links to the keyword “Obama” than to “McCain.”
As you can see in the picture, our very own Manny Pacquiao reigns the internet over Oscar De La Hoya when it comes to keyword battle. 1,030,000 returns compared to 3,810!
Interesting site to test who and what keywords dominate the internet, right?

Prank Callers Beware!

(This is a sponsored post)

I've been receiving some news from my cousins abroad about the growing incident of prank calling. Sometimes their phone just rings in the middle of the night only to find out the other line hunged up as soon as you pick up the phone. One of my cousins enountered a prank caller telling some obscene and malicious words. My relatives were so fed up, they had to find a solution to these annoying callers.

Fortunately, because of some ineternet research, my relatives were able to report those unknown numbers and even commented on them in online. Pretty annoying huh. But with their first step, may those prank callers will stop. Well I hope so.

Basic Photo Uploading

19 November 2008

In this fast-paced technology moderniation, one of the common hobby we know, photography, can now be done in simple and modern way. Various types of digital cameras have struck the market, offering different features that suite one's convenience and satisfaction. Great photos are now just a click away using these modern gadgets.

And viewing these great pictures is even greater and better using our laptops and of course our LCD TVs.

What To Do

After a week of blog hiatus, finally I'm back and ready to share my upcoming plans to the blogosphere. Ah, so many things happened last week, starting of with Ms. Karla Henry winning the Ms. Earth 2008 title. Congratulations! I was in bed that time drinking water, and I can't help but watch the contest. Congratulations to the "Greatest Filipino film of all time," Himala(Miracle) directed by the late and Philippine National Artist Ishmael Bernal and stars Nora Aunor.
The film won the 2008 CNN Asia Pacific Screen Awards Viewers Choice Award for Best Asia-Pacific Film of all Time last November 11(voted for by thousands of film fans around the world, at www.cnn.com/thescreeningroom). Imagine that, beating other films like Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai and Ang Lee's Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

I have some plans in my mind right now for this week. First I am planning to try postcrossing as what sir Redlan is doing right now. For information, postcrossing i a project that allows anyone to exchange postcards from random places in the world. First I'm thinking of sending postcards to my blogging and forum friends from around the world, and they are:

Mirjam, a friend from Germany and I met last 2006 Cordillera Day in Kalinga
Eka, my forum buddy from Indonesia but I have to validate his address first
Juliet, a nurse from New Zealand and we share the same interest
Francine, another forum buddy from Italy. Last Christmas I sent her a bracelet I bought from Benguet and she still wears it
Reseres, a fellow blogger and an indegineous youth from Taiwan whom I met last Cordillera 2008 in Abra

Goodbye Runescape, Hello,Perfect World ! After a year of silence finally I am now playing PW. Actually, I've created a character a year ago but because I simply don't like playing it, I just left my character on standby. I even forgot my account password, but now after playing Runescape, my interest in reactivating my PW character came, and that's it.

I almost forgot the third part of my project proposal series so I am going to tackle on this topic within this week.

Obama Makes History as America's First Black President

05 November 2008

News Source: Yahoo! News

His name etched in history as America's first black president, Barack Obama turned from the jubilation of victory to the sobering challenge of leading a nation worried about economic crisis, two unfinished wars and global uncertainty.

"The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep," Obama cautioned.

Young and charismatic but with little experience on the national level, Obama smashed through racial barriers and easily defeated Republican John McCain to become the first African-American destined to sit in the Oval Office, America's 44th president. He was the first Democrat to receive more than 50 percent of the popular vote since Jimmy Carter in 1976.

"It's been a long time coming, but tonight, because of what we did on this date in this election at this defining moment, change has come to America," Obama told a victory rally of 125,000 people jammed into Chicago's Grant Park.
For the Vice Presidential race, Sen. Joe Biden won against Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.

Obama scored an Electoral College landslide that redrew America's political map. He won states that reliably voted Republican in presidential elections, like Indiana and Virginia, which hadn't supported the Democratic candidate in 44 years. Ohio and Florida, key to Bush's twin victories, also went for Obama, as did Pennsylvania, which McCain had deemed crucial for his election hopes.

With just 76 days until the inauguration, Obama is expected to move quickly to begin assembling a White House staff and selecting Cabinet nominees.

After the longest and costliest campaign in U.S. history, Obama was propelled to victory by voters dismayed by eight years of George W. Bush's presidency and deeply anxious about rising unemployment and home foreclosures and a battered stock market that has erased trillions of dollars of savings for Americans.

Six in 10 voters picked the economy as the most important issue facing the nation in an Associated Press exit poll. None of the other top issues — energy, Iraq, terrorism and health care — was selected by more than one in 10. Obama has promised to cut taxes for most Americans, get the United States out of Iraq and expand health care, including mandatory coverage for children.

Obama acknowledged that repairing the economy and dealing with problems at home and overseas will not happen quickly. "We may not get there in one year or even in one term," he said. "But, America, I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there. I promise you, we as a people will get there."

McCain conceded defeat shortly after 11 p.m. EST, telling supporters outside the Arizona Biltmore Hotel, "The American people have spoken, and they have spoken clearly."

"This is an historic election, and I recognize the special significance it has for African-Americans and the special pride that must be theirs tonight," McCain said. "These are difficult times for our country. And I pledge to him tonight to do all in my power to help him lead us through the many challenges we face."

Black Americans celebrate Obama's Victory

'CIVIL WAR ENDED'

For anyone with a sense of America's history of slavery and the 19th century Civil War that tore the country apart, Obama's win was a landmark.

Slavery and its successor, a brutal system of racial segregation that prevailed in the South until the 1960s, long tarnished the country's pride in democratic ideals.

"And so it came to pass that on November 4, 2008, shortly after 11 p.m. Eastern time, the American Civil War ended, as a black man -- Barack Hussein Obama -- won enough electoral votes to become president of the United States." wrote New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman.

It was not just columnists seeing a moment to savor.

"This is definitely history in the making," said elementary school teacher Sheneka Mayes, 32, in Atlanta. "This night will be burned into my memory and into the memory of my children."
In a politically polarized country, many conservatives bemoaned the defeat of Republican John McCain but supporters of Democrat Obama delighted in his win, and many of them because he will be the first black president in U.S. history.

A big crowd held a candlelight vigil at King's tomb in Atlanta, setting the election firmly in the context of the movement in the 1950s and 1960s to end racial segregation and win the right to vote for black Americans in the South.

In his victory speech, Obama even told his daughters, "they earned a new puppy that wil come with them to the White House" and thanked his family especially her grandmother who passed away recently.

Manic Monday: Schooling and Gaming 101

03 November 2008

At last, our Prelim exams just ended! We are now tackling our Midterm lessons and hopefully I could understand all of them. This morning my IT02 prof announced that she's going to move our subject to a new schedule, and we also learned taht she gave her other subjects to another prof. Then later I learned from onr one of my classmates that Madam is going to have a new job and that she'll be a part-time prof in our college. I must admit I was sad when I heared the news. Yeah students categorize her as "the terror teacher", but they must also admit that they learned a lot from her. Senti? No. I just hope she'll be fine with her new job.
